THE COGNITIVE CONTORTION STATE

Animals as Leaders, djent and progressive metal band came to Chile last month... i first was sceptic, since this band, altough it is a popular name in their domain, i never though that they would come to this world's end country.

And so they did... for two miraculous days (one of wich i went with some friends) we had the oportunity to listen one of the most complex metal bands now on days, with an amazing live demonstration of their musical abilities, something that they've pushed to the top. So, as metal lovers, musitian amateurs and young spirits, we entered the Nescafé Theater carrying an LSD tablet beneath our tongues... crazy enough we stood all night long at the stalls stairs, surrounded by fans who were contained due to the numerated seats system... That's right, a metal concert with a sat audience (kind of depressing). And there we were, at the stairs at the border of the balcony, tripping as hell, surrounded by crazy stimulus, fading speach habilities, surrendered before synesthesia...lights go out... The first song, "Arithmophobia" begins playing, and we get suck on a trance state. Music went to a hole other level that night... the almost impossible to follow rythms, sick guitar melodies and flashy colorfull laser-lights became an hypnotic and mesmerizing expirience on a high counsciousness state in wich understanding of music became a revelation of true skill, perseverance, a personal message to improving, to be better at it... And so i lived the two hour concert banging as a crazy man, exhausting my breath to praise three beasts at stage. Two hours i sat on my own ass at the edge of the balcony, two hours i waved my hair at the confusing beats, and somehow i understood rythmics without knowing a clue of music theory...in fact, people didn't move, or the ones that did, didn't get right the polymorphic rythmics and in a diachronic way, they just kept moving shyly their heads. It even happened that, as we were the only ones really motivated and hitting the beats, Tosin Abasi, the principal guitarrist, looked up, pointed at us as a sign of aprooval, smiled and got into that guitar solo. It might sound ridiculous, but in fact, that moment (which we all agree happened) was special because it meant that we understood their music as natural as possible, and were ones of the few that understood... somehow we were equals by a minute, and so ourselves can, in a future, become like them: absolute masters. More than just a concert, i remember it as a life lesson, and as a starting musitian meant a lot... still does. Anyway, best trip/concert of my life. Hail Animal as Leaders.
